Description

Back from the vaults (well, a pallet we found buried at the back of the warehouse in reality...) is the Army Armament R85 A1. All the plastic parts are now injection moulded in Two-Tone green to make it easier for you to repaint (or replace the original plastics) when you become registered to own a RIF. The only painted part is the top receiver.

We recommend only for use with the 2200mAh R85 battery or a 2200mAh or higher LiPo converted to Large Tamiya or the rifle converted to deans.

Note:

These are re-worked rifles and tested before dispatch. Please note that with all G&G and Army Armaments R85 / L85 rifles, semi-auto is known to be temperamental. Please check the forums before purchasing as returns for temperamental semi-auto will not be accepted.

The British forces standard issue assault rifle is now available in a luvly! 2-tone green which conforms to the current VCRA non-realistic firearm requirements. This means that anyone over the age of 18 can purchase one as registration is not required. Damned near flawless finish & build, no rattles or creaks, very quiet & smooth in operation and it does feature the 'lockable' cocking handle. Pull this all the way back & it stays back, even on full-auto. So you won't have to disconnect it to prevent it failing on full auto. To release it again? Hit the bolt release catch! These will accept most M16 magazines - STAR, MAG, JG, TM etc. Please don't email asking "which mag.."! Comes with 450rd hi-cap magazine, battery, charger and adjustment tools. Although a mini-style battery is provided, experience suggests that it is well worth investing the either a Vapex or Strikalite 2200 mah battery pack. Not only will this prolong the life of your gun on site, but these packs provide sufficient power to ensure the best performance from the unique gearbox. Low powered batteries are not recommended.

Bought this rifle along with three restricted military/police mags a acog and 9k bbs just two days ago, arrived today. big ol'parcel made my face light up...

Got back from work at around 10pm pulled it out the box whacked on my acog filled up two magazines and began the slightly painful but well worth it unscrewing of the front of the rifle. Once I had slotted the (almost empty battery) into the rifle screwed it on slammed a magazine home and to delight emptied about 20 rounds into my garden fence. As I pulled the trigger again for another delightful burst nothing happened just a dull clicking sound. I whipped out the battery whacked it on a half a hour charge and within 20 minutes went back to unleashing hell upon my garden fence. From first looks well 'beasty' but as I began to fiddle with it, toy with it and explore its ins and outs I noticed how honestly realistic all the working parts were to the real rifle. I was quite pleased with the pretty exact field stripping guide and the working fore and rear trigger mechanism housing pins found on the real rifle. Very authentic even though its two tone. All the shot's seemed well. A lot more scary than my l96 to be honest with you. Its my first AEG so cant give you a huge comparison but R85 vs my L96 and Glock 18c well, so far its obliterated them in every aspect, with the acog its deadly accurate, brilliant rate of fire even with a out of the box battery, one hell of a noise, excellent realistic and well joyful blowback and all in all the best piece of airsofting kit I have so far. Hell, I would have sold the camouflage if I had to to get myself one of these. More useful than DPM thats for sure :).

Thanks a load AW, brilliant delivery, great service and a great rifle!

P.S Only a 4 on price as it went up £10 the day before I bought it. Grr bad AW :p

Just recieved this gun today and It's fantastic, great build quality, accuracy and power, especially for such a decent price. Unfortunately it took 2 weeks to arrive however, After ordering on the 22nd it was marked as despatched the day after, a week and a half later , having not yet got it, we rang AW and they said it was going to be delivered in a few days, and that it hadn't actually been despatched : / bit annoyed but everybody else seems to have had good experiences with AW so hopefully it was just a one-off. But other than that, very pleased with my purchase :D

Although I've had this for about a month now, I didn't get to use it in a proper skirmish untill a few days ago. The '85 did quite well in the games. I didn't....
This is my first 'proper' airsoft gun, all the previous ones have either been cheap and fairly rubbish plastic springers, or over-priced electrics (Although I have used a friends M4 a few times and a G36). When I first got it, I was slightly scared that I'd broken it, or it wasn't working, but it turned out I wasn't loading it properly lol.
Anyway. The price is a bit of a hike compared to other guns (e.g G36c or some M4s) but it's definitly worth the £165. Its very un-likely you'll ever see anyone else with this gun - even in the UK. I think it's slightly better than some of the other proper AEGs I've used.

I was playing against and alongside 2 JG M4s (no clue which version) and some weird G3 rifle (which I've never seen on AW). Even though my Hop-Up is barely on, I was managing to keep the range of the others, and the power. My buddies liked it too :)
The 450 hi-cap it came with is very useful, it meant I didn't have to reload that much (twice in the entire day, while the M4's were constantly reloading their 300 HC mags...) Rate of fire - about the same as the M4s. Which is very good. Weight - a lot. My sling broke at the start of the game, so I had to carry it all day. My arms still hurt lol.
However. I do have a problem with mine, and it's the mag-release button. This is held in place with a very small pin. Every-time I try to unload this slips out, sometimes causing the catch to fall off. I now have to blue-tac the thing in place. Sometimes the gun will jam, or fail on semi-auto, but usually there isn't anything wrong with the gun. Just switch to full auto fire a few rounds and you should be fine.
When AW say "clean your gun's barrel", boy do they mean it. Mine was filled with a rediculous ammount of crud. I'm still finding it sometimes. What do AA grease their guns in? A chippy?
I'm looking forwards for AW getting susats in, I really need one! The iron-sights are good, but difficult to look down with certain face-masks.

During the skirmish, there was a bit of a dust storm, and a lot of flying brick dust/fine particles. My gun (and the others) got covered in this and the dust literally got everywhere, and although I cleaned the '85, the gun started acting up a bit. Every so often, the gun would make a sort of "crunch" and "screech" sound (at same time), so I stopped using it. I've cleaned it up even more now I'm at home, and it doesn't seem to make the sound when I've dry-fired it a few times.
- This leads me to a question AW - is there anything wrong with my gun? It might have been the battery as I'd been using it all day, but could it be something else? What should I do?

Anyway - all in all a good gun, better than some of the others I was facing.
Thanks AW!

Finally a gun that is all round brilliant. it looks great it feels great and it preforms great. the fps might be a bit low for some of you veteran airsofters however it is great for me becuase of the low limits of fps at the local airsofting site. it sometimes does decide it wants to jam but it is easy to fix. i love the blowback system however im worried that it might decrease the lifetime of the gun. is this true? and how would i disable the blowback? i also love the two tone job by AW it is awesome. thanks airsoft world.

I've had this rifle now for four days (which only took two days to arrive thanks to Airsoft World) and my first impressions were, wow its heavy. The gun is extremely solid and durable, with a great rate of fire and distance. Despite these great features of the gun, i have to admit that the battery compartment latch does have some wobble, and the magazine catch is also slightly lacking in performance. But overall the price of this gun is great value for money, and your sure to have endless amounts of fun with this rifle!

i bought this gun at the beggining of may, and at first i was very dissapointed with it due to the face that the trigger astopped working and my blowback stopped working, but after a week or so of waiting its was repaired and i was impressed with the FPS, ROF and the range.

the review below states that this gun is poor, i completely disagree he says it can only penetrate 1 side of a coke can however mine went through boh sides with ease at 20m and carried on going so there must be a fault with his.

this is a good gun and i would suggest to anyone to buy it!
i would like to know if AW is going to stock any SA80 Susats anytime soon?

AW answer: We will have the SUSATS very soon :)

I think this gun is very good. One of the best i have fired. on your first time of fireing the gun make sure the hop up is compeatly off or you will mush up your barrel. It has one of the best acuracy from all the guns i have fired. I would recemend buying 2 more mags for it or when you go to airsoft it is a pain to take out the mag and load lots more bb into it. It comes with a 450 round mag but the anoying thing is that you can't buy 450 round mags so buy 300 round. It takes M4 mags but make sure you don't buy the vietmanese style mag as it looks stupid. over all it is a very good gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUY IT!!!!!!!!!

I was really excited to get this gun...had to wait about 5 weeks for it too as it was not in stock! but once in stock it came rapidly! Thanks AW!!

overall first impressions of the gun were great, looked great, almost absolutly spot on to the real thing, and the weight was also very alike the real thing!

only problems i have is occasionaly it jams on repetative fire (single shot) and you have to hold down the catch to full auto quite hard to make it work again!

i bought a SUSAT sight for mine, had to do some filing but looks brilliant now!

have taken it skirmishing a few times now and some advice to others who are thinking about bying it!, honestly either wait for a new model of the AA version to come out or save up and buy the G&G version as apparently these problems have allready been sorted!

another problem i had was that the fake gas parts in the fore grip fell appart and therefore caused the entire forgrip to fall appart, but as you get a manual with the gun it is easily fixed!

there are certain things you should definly invest in! such as a new battery as it runs out quickly, but as AW said its a freebie so i didnt expect much! also invest in a proper 3 point sa80 sling as they are cheap but much stronger unlike the one you get in the pack which breaks almost instantaniously! and if you want to look good buy a SUSAT but only if your willing to do some filling of the rail!

despite these few almost unoticable problems it is a brilliant gun and is worth every penny!

im probably going to buy myself either an M4 or an MP5 as i have seen them around and seem to be quite popular at skirmishing sites!

these are all problems that Army Armament must sort out but the service from AW is brilliant! so thank you AW!

This has to be the worst 'full price' AEG that i've ever seen. True, the quality is very good, and it does have a very nice weight to it, coupled with a realistic feel. It is one for those who just like to play around with it and maybe plink, but it is not a serious airsoft gun as it is. When compared to other AEGs, such as the entire JG range pretty much (except for the M4 which has some accuracy problems, although an upgrade to the hop up may help that considerably), it really becomes a bit of a joke.

The range is short of poor, especially for the price- the bbs dip after 40m, with the hop up applied. The accuracy is undoubtedly good, and if a complete gear change, hop change, and new spring was added, then it might be a very potent weapon in airsoft, but as it is, you would be beaten by a triple shot shotgun, hands down every time.

However, although the blow back mechanism may tempt you, the rate of fire lets that down immediately anyway. It's a shame to see such a nice looking gun with such nice aesthetics, perform so poorly.

My suggestion would be to avoid it. The people who have posted reviews here clearly haven't owned any AEGs before, and know little of what a 'proper' AEG is capable of.

The power is also another issue. It lacks any substantial penetration power, for example it only goes through one side of a can, whereas the entire JG range go through both sides, and almost all, through the bottom.

In conlusion, even if you are a true L85 purist, and really want one, do not buy it. It is almost certainly worth buying a JG AEG instead, or if you really are desperate, to splash out and but the G&G L85 which is supposed to be fantastic.

So what I'm saying here is that although it is a pretty poor AEG, but the other Chinese clones that airsoftworld sell on this website for example, JG are of a far better quality and definitely worth the investment.

This gun is amazing. Just recieved it from airsoft world a few days ago and it had not let me down yet. I recieved the package of this gun, an extra mag and bbs within 3 working days (it was actually two but no one was in the house when it was delivered so it was re-delivered next day), so excellent service. Everything was as expected and more. Gun is very accurate and has good FPS and range. The gun quite heavy but it's not too bad as long as you have the muscle but i also bought the SA80 sling with it incase i do want a rest. All in all an excellent gun and incredible for the price!!!! Thanks Airsoft World!!!

recieved mine 3 days after ordering, nice 1 air soft. good quality construction love the blowback feature as it makes it feel even more like the real deal and the 8.4 volt battery gives it a real punch. the only problem i have with this gun is that it is spray painted to make it a two tone which is fine if the job is done properly but in this case it is not. I have had it about two days now and the paint is already starting to chip revealing the guns origional colours underneath. despite this minor niggle this really is a awsome piece of kit that i would recommened to anyone.... thanks airsoft world

This gun feels and looks great, the full metal body makes it look very realisitic (despite the two-tone colour).
However, looks can be deciving. The FPS is poor, probably not evn 300. The ROF isn't great either. Also there are a few shabby finishes which cause the gun o break e.g the front sight which snapped off on mine due to it being held in with some pathetic little pin.
On the upside the accuracy is great and makes picking off small targets a piece of cake. Therefore if you must buy this gun; I suggest upgrading the spring to increase the FPS, and buying a larger battery for a more deadly ROF.
Though to save yourself the hastle and money, I would recomend the jg G36c as this beats the AA L85 in every single way.

great gun, nearly all metal, with blowback! what more!? although, that was its problem. my blowback broke, so i had to send it back and they deactivated it. the blowback does reduce its life span, and can after long usage wreck the piston sear (if i remember correctly). other than that, it is easily fixed anyway, a brilliant gun and so nice to handle, on of the best ive had!

AW answer (much before Christmas): Either will do fine but 0.25g BB's will be slightly more accurate as they resist wind deflection better due to the extra weight. For general shoot-em-ups, 0.20g are perfectly good and will save you dosh too ;)

Recieved mine today.
As soon as i opened the box i was very pleased by the quality of the gun.
It is very much like the gun it is based on (it even has storage space in the pistol grip)
The body is very strong and feels like it will last a long time. The foregip on mine seems study and moves only a tiny bit although you don't really notice this.
The only down point about this gun i feel is the placement of the battery (very hard to get to in a skirmish).
Have not yet had a chance to fire but everything else about this gun seems perfect.
Many thanks to airsoft world for great service and customer care =]

Have to give it 5/5

The fact you have to unscrew the foregrip to get to the battery is annoying, but can be solved with the addition of an external battery pouch which is like a tenner!

I was pretty surprised with the quality of the gearbox for a clone, it had a bearing spring guide, steel gears, reinforced gearbox casing, reinforced cylinder head and metal bushings as standard, which you dont get with many low priced clones!

Also when i got mine the fps was CRAP (about 290) but thats the risk you take with clones, so i put an M110 spring in it to bring it up to 360ish. To get an even nicer ROF i put a 9.6v battery in it (as it has metal bushings as standard)

The accuracy is very good as it has a 509mm length barrel, any bullpup weapon will be!! It is easily one of the most accurate AEGs when I'm out in the field.

Cant justify spending 330 for the G&G, and definatly not £400 for the star. Best quality clone ive come accross

Nice one Army Armament!
