Non-pyro, CO2 charged grenade.

The new improved Mk2 heavy duty version has addressed the leaky and bendy issues of the previous model. This one ROCKS!  A "Holy sh*t" 130 db of loudness, very light, re-useable and most importantly - it looks like a grenade!  Starter pack comprises the main fuse body (steel/aluminium), 2 pineapple shells and one cylinder shell.  Additional shell packs are available at only £4.50 for three.

For the online manual and manufacturers website, please click HERE

Want to see it again with video controls click HERE The unit itself uses readily available 12g CO2 bulbs - one for each bang...the pin is pulled and the timer (adjustable) is a delay-valve which, when detonated, suddenly dumps all the CO2 gas into the sealed plastic grenade shell. The shell swells up under the immense pressure and ruptures with a very loud bang. For each use of the grenade, you need to replace the shell and CO2 capsule which is very simple and quick to do. Please make sure you screw on the grenade body all the way to create a gas seal. The CO2 capsules and polythene shells are recyclable, please make the effort to do so ;) An absolute must-have for all respectable bang-merchants!

Wanted a cheap reusable grenade that looked like a real grenade. 10/10 for that. Threaded aluminum internal collar that holds the CO2 bulb holder against the striker failed on second use, stripping its threads and ejecting the bulb, aluminum tube and striker out through the single-use casing and denting the wall. No one was hurt but scary. Airsoftworld replaced the collar free of charge - no hassles, but three uses on and it did the same. This time in a woodland site and I lost the ejected bits. Shame - lovely looker, spoon action, very loud, could do with some steel bits inside.

Great bit of kit

Good quality bit of kit.
Very loud, great for sites with a peat based ground, or potential for fire.
When mine arrived I cleaned the CO2 cylinder with meths, greased the bottom cap and used a bit of thread lock on top.
I also put stickers on the CO2 cylinder with my name on to avoid the whole is that one mine or yours arguments.
Lastly when you go to screw the body onto the core, wipe some Vaseline round the thread, it seems to help seal it, making them go off quicker.
Currently I am waiting on an order of rubber "o" rings from a plumbing shop to try fitting one into the top of the core to see if that will sort the whole sealing issue, and will update when/if it does

The Big Bang Review

Loud it certainly is. Easy to use, I found it so. Wait a time for it to explode I most certainly did!!
3 issues..
1:- Tried it out in a CQB site and waited 15 secs for it to explode.
Answer make the gas fill the case faster, which I did. Be very careful if you drill the CO2 case!! Too big a hole and it will explode almost immediately. "a tiny, tiny hole."
Do not do the film trick of releasing the lever and counting. Just throw it with the lever unpinned but hand held please!!
2:- Puncturing of the CO2 cannister sometimes hit and miss.
Answer lubricated the striking pin and did not place a coin/packer under the CO2 cannister as reduces the striking stroke and angle of it.
3:- Check with any CQB site wether or not it is permissable, as it does move at some speed as it explodes and it is VERY LOUD!! Some sites are worried that it will fragment, All mine have split open, but no fragmentation has ever occured.
And lastly buy the bulk pack, if they ever come in...hehe.

Great for room clearance and very loud, I would advise people to put vasaline around the threads of the shells to make a better air seal.

My only concern was that the CO2 cylinder came slightly scratched like it had been used before, and I dont think it could have been scratched on route because everything was wrapped up in plastic so thats why I have given 3 stars to the quality.

This product is great value for money, it makes a very loud bang when it goes off and is easy to reload. My only issue with it is that the CO2 capsule is not punctured 100% of the time, this is easily fixed by putting a 5p coin in the bottom of the tube though.
I would recommend this to anyone who wanted a reusable grenade.

These grenades are great when they go off! They work out cheaper than some pyros at under £2 a bang you cant complain! I had a problem with a couple of missfires
but sorted it by putting vasilline round the shell thread and a 1cent coin in the bottom of the sparklet tube works great now! I would say every milsim paintballer should have these in there arsenal!

Works Very Well as IED / Booby Trap

I decided that my reusable grenades would be best put to use as IED’s / booby traps, tied to trees / wedged using stones etc, string across the path connected to the ring pull. That way you can set it up and leave it there all day… with us it was the 2nd or 3rd game when it was set off and it caught the ‘enemy’ by surprise.
If you want to throw a grenade at people I would buy disposable ones as I can imagine this one would do some damage if the top metal part hit you on your noggin.
Also the first time I used it the grenade failed to detonate, a quick internet search and I found some hints on you tube, from then on no problems.

GAHHH MY EARS!!!

These little beuties are a must for the UK weather, the co2 not being nearly as bothered by the cold weather as standard gas grenades, many times ive had expensive tornado grenades land at my feet only do anounce their presence with silence and a lack of detonation, these grenades are around a third of the price yet function so much more reliably, i dont know whether changes have been made from these compared to what ive seen in reviews where the co2 capsule wasnt pierced but in my experience the entire razor sharp firing pin jams itself into the co2 capsule thanks to a small rubber piece which lifts the co2 capsule inside the cylinder. During my first test fire (accidental unfortunately :p) it detonated roughly 3 seconds after the hammer dropped and caused ringing in my ears for a further 15 minutes :( the only adjustment id recommend is scoring the bottom of the grenade with a knife to reduced the chances that it will split up to the thread. A fantastic realistic cost effect and most of all BLOODY LOUD sound grenade , well worth a buy, ill probably be picking up a second starter pack some time in the near future, double the bang = double the fun XD

Top tip - occasionally these won't fire as the gas can leak through the main seal between the shell and the mechanism, despite the improved design. Put a small amount of vaseline on the shell's thread + this will solve that problem. Every time I've tried this they've worked.

no fireworks but loud and safe!

At about £1.75 per bang; the cost of CO2 and grenade shell could mount up, but flash-bangs are similarly priced and have no reusable parts, if the shell could be bought in bulk, and thereby make each unit cheaper, life could certainly go with a bang!

Used these for the 1st time today. They're really good, and REALLY loud. They go off fairly quickly (3-4 secs) so don't be messing around and trying to cook these as it will more than likely go off in your hand. Probably best not to chuck one in your mate's face either due to the pressure released, but play safe like you would with other pyros and you'll be fine.

The addition of a tree and a couple of bits of string easily turns these into an improvised claymore for which the short fuse an advantage.

Yes they work out slightly more expensive than some cheap pyros, and they take a bit of time to set up again, but they're so much like the real thing to use IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY :D :D

great replacement for pyros for indoor use!

I'm attending an indoor CQB game pretty soon, and part of the area will be carpeted, so no pyros will be allowed. As a result (and partially out of curiosity) i ordered two sets of these, and have yet to be disappointed! As mentioned above, they sometimes don't fire, but this is usually to do with the O-Rings not being aligned properly, you just need to make sure you have the one in the canister flush with the gas container.
The noise is fantastic, I'v been told by loads of people that they thought it was a real pyro, and it can leave your ears ringing as the thermobarics tend to do!
I don't however recommend the gas cylinders sold here, so far I have been fine just using crossman ones from ebay or wherever, the o-rings don't burst or anything, so it seems a bit steep cost wise-better to buy a ton for ten or twenty quid ...

Summary.

Pros:
Loud (I mean LOUD)
look cool (look more like a grenade than a firework)
no smoke (meaning more indoor friendly)
cheap to replace (about £2 or £3 for each use, which is comparable to pyros)

Cons:
take a while to assemble between uses
noise may be too loud for some very confined spaces
no flash

when i got the grenade i was disappointed to find AW had left out the 3 included shells. This was not a huge thing though as i had bought an additional 12 pack of shells.

the grenade it self is well built and not going to break easily. the grenade is tremendously loud. brilliant for scarring the unsuspecting player. I'm now debating buying another they are so good.

My only other complaint is the postage for this item. It is charged the same rate as other pyro. which i cannot work out as nothing contained inside is even slightly dangerous. why is this AW?

AW answer: The CO2 gas capsules are considered by couriers as a hazardous item. Regardless, the grenade and extra shells would have cost that to ship anyway due to the physical size....did you contact the office aboutthe 'missing' shells?

nice little grenade very load indoors and very effective but i had issues with mine with the gas not entering the plastic case but a simple solution of drilling a hold in the cap that you screw the co2 into worked a tread and i would beleive that the faster build in pressure i feel made it better. also a little trouble with the pin not percing the co2 easist way to do it is to press the pin down with your finger and it works a tread im sure a stronger spring would help
